Deputy Director Finance & Business Services
What you'll do
The Deputy Director for Finance & Business Services plays a critical role in the effective and efficient running of GDS as part of the GDS senior leadership team. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and working alongside the Deputy Director of People Services, this role forms part of the leadership of GDS’s ‘Business and People Services’ Directorate, providing expert corporate services for all of GDS. The post holder will be required to operate across the organisation, and work closely with GDS and wider Cabinet Office colleagues.
Responsibilities include:
- Ensure fit for purpose governance, portfolio and performance management arrangements to provide assurance that GDS’s short and long term objectives and outcomes are being achieved in an efficient and effective way
- Management of GDS’s financial wellbeing, working collaboratively with Cabinet Office Finance colleagues through planning and controlling operational budgets of £300m+
- Oversee and assure procurement arrangements across GDS, working closely with Cabinet Office Commercial to ensure value for money and sound governance
- Effective risk management across GDS, ensuring risk is identified, understood and appropriately mitigated
- Provide an effective workplace management service (estates and security) and lead on business continuity for GDS
- Develop new ways of working to improve processes and policies in support of organisational goals
- Balance multiple priorities whilst keeping sight of the bigger picture
- Provide insights which support targeted, evidence-based, interventions to improve performance
- Lead and motivate a busy outward facing team, totalling circa 45 people
- Provide constructive challenge to peers, colleagues and seniors

- Influential at all levels of seniority within the business
