Welcome from Tom Read, CEO
Thank you for your interest in the exciting leadership opportunities at the Government Digital Service (GDS). GDS champions the digital transformation of the UK government so that it works better for everyone.
We want to make it simple and easy for people to use government services online, and to make it cheaper and more efficient for government departments to operate their vital services.
GDS has recently proved itself capable of responding to government’s very biggest demands, such as EU Exit and COVID-19, through our digital products that scale to serve departments across government and also work for citizens.
Government services have matured over the past decade, with strong digital teams delivering new online services every year in departments like HMRC, MoJ and DWP. The next part of the mission is to start building information and services around the holistic needs of the end user, rather than them needing to understand the complex structures of government.
I am looking for people who enhance our culture which values people, user-centred design, and empathy as well as excellence in delivery. You should value diversity, and understand the benefits a diverse and inclusive team brings to delivery.
The successful candidate will be part of a refreshed leadership team, setting the overall strategic direction for GDS. They will also need to work closely with ministers, digital leaders and policy professions right across government to ensure that we deliver a solution in real partnership with other departments, and that it properly reflects the diverse needs of their users.
If successful, you will be joining one of the most progressive, dynamic and fun places to work in government, where your leadership and work will provide a tangible and real difference to people’s lives. I look forward to your application, and thank you for the interest you have shown to help solve some of society’s hardest problems through digital, data and technology.
